As I was doing my Daily run through on blogs, I was astounded to find out that one of my favorite TV sitcoms held an eye openingt attribute that is important to me right now..... Can you guess what that is?? Yes Hair! Naturals Rox!!

In the Fresh Prince of Belair... all of the women in the household were Naturals with all their versatile textures and styles. Of Course this was when Janet Hubert(Aunt Viv) was present in the show!.

The video I have posted reveals some of the truth as to why she didn't continue on with the show. I decided to post this because although it doesn't actually speak on hair... it does show that Natural hair women are regular WOMEN!! We all have issues just like the rest of the World!

Like any good hair care personal (that’s what I am going to address myself as from now on until I really become one lol), you have to have excellent resources. Resources that get down and dirty! Resources, that reveal the truth even if it hurts like stubbing your toe on a piece of furniture (we all know how that feels). In the past few days I have stumbled upon these three forums where I feel anyone with a head full of hair can benefit from such information as this. And these places are the Forums below. There are such great forums that help uplift transitioning women, women with dyed hair, men with hair loss, women with relaxed breakin ends… etc… You can find reviews on the latest hair care products, styles, help with unruly hair and so much more. The fact of the matter are that these three forums are focused on helping people like you to understand the hair that you have been blessed with. Take at look at each! Scroll over the pics to view each title of the forum.

First and foremost I have to explain how super excited I am about August 28th.... Whats on the 28th?? Well if you haven't heard the Rock the bells Concert will be in the city that never sleeps. It is one of the dopest concerts that wakes up "Music" from its dormant State. This year is supposed to be 'LIVE'! My sugar boo Slick rick, my high school gang Wu Tang Clan, my kick it buddies KRS One and so much more will be there. Not to mention.....

YUP that's right my girl Lauryn!! So if you guys know me, I am super dramatic about life. And when I found out my homie was going to be there I FLIPPED!!!! I mean I am a God fearing Woman and the Bible says not to hold any idols.. but if I were to have an Idol it would definitely be her!!

So wants some more startling news??? I think Ms.Hill is back for good!! Or at least a while....

She has a single out which you can check out on Rap Radar!! Yes New music called repercussions... I think it is so dope. This right here is going to go down in my family history. I will be telling my children about Lauryn and how she came out with a really good song out of no where to wake up the Real Music lovers out there....

Well Take a listen and tell me what you think.

Ok so before I start this, please remember this is my personal blog, so I am completely entitled to say whatever I like about whomever I like. BUT I will never make it too personal to violate someone elses’ space…. (Disregarding Naturals/transitioners aswell)….

How many times have you heard… “Oh I am rocking my hair natural today”? Well My hand is raised way in the sky because during these summer months I hear it more than I hear the ice cream truck. When I do hear remarks like these I can’t help but smile. And not because I am in a mood of happiness… But because I find it foolish. If you haven’t figured it out by now, this term is spoken by those with relaxed hair. Yes, I am a drama queen so I have to explode this topic up!

The more I get acquainted with hair history the more I realize that some of the statements that are said are out of pure ignorance. (I still love my relaxed hair viewers) BUT saying things like, “my hair is natural today!” Makes me give you the blank stare -__-

Guys, let’s make this clear, once you’re hair is chemically processed…. YOUR HAIR IS NO LONGER COMPLETELY NATURAL… UNLESS you BC. So you haven’t received a perm in 2 months or 3 weeks… it doesn’t mean that when you do a braid out it is a “Natural Look”. That simply means that your hair is braided out! Or if you let your hair air dry, it doesn’t mean that your hair is Natural aswell. All of these misconceptions are just little pet peeves that show me that we are uneducated in all aspects of life. Now you may not agree with me but It’s just my opinion.

I do understand that these are just statements that women like to refer to their hair as, but most times when women with relaxed hair use these comments, it is because they have not the time or money to rollerset their hair… in turn making it seem as if a braid out or air drying is an easy way to go. The way I look at it…. Natural hair is precious and when you refer to air dried hair as Natural… its an understatement. Sure you are correct in some sense (seeing how you didn’t use any heat) but the fact of the matter… You are still relaxed… That’s it!

I love you guys! Stay happy and true

Hola, Dudes and Dudettes!

While I was cruising the net with my daily Hair blogs I stumbled upon and interesting fact. Actor Yvette Nicole Brown tresses are indeed real. Every time I watched that beautiful beauty on television I never fathomed that her hair was real. I was so caught up with the society and its falsehoods like “faces” and “hair” I automatically assumed that her hair was fake.

She put out a blog post a few years back that explained her hair and its natural state. The five minutes I spent reading it was really worth my time! Some of her words explained my life and thinking to a tee which is why I want to share this with you lovelys today. WARNING: the link to the left may cause tears and conviction, if you are a sucker like myself.

Ok so call me crazy but while I was surfing Sephora’s Online store, I had some type of epiphany… well if you want to call it that. They have this amazing smelling body mist called

Milk Made™ Body Hydrating Moisture Milk Mist

! The way I am speaking about it may make it seems as if I have used this product before… well… no I haven’t but the description is persuasive enough for me to purchase it so I can say I own it! =)

Anyway, I figured that if I did buy it, I would not use it on my skin but instead on my hair…. You are probably thinking, “This girl needs a psych ward!” But hear me out guys… I was reading through the ingredients and they don’t seem that bad and the good thing is that it is based with REAL shea, and different oils. If you look logically at it, your scalp is basically your skin right? And this product is supposed to moisten your skin so why wouldn’t it work magic in our Natural tresses??  What do you guys think I should do???

What it is formulated WITHOUT:

- Parabens
- Sulfates
- Synthetic Dyes
- Petro-Chemicals
- Phthalates
- GMOs
- Triclosan

Ingrediants:

Water (Aqua), Isopropyl Palmitate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glycerin,Glyceryl Stearate,Polysorbate 20,Fragrance (Parfum), Butyrospermum parkii (Shea Butter), Althaea officinalis (Marshmallow) extract,Milk Lipid,Inulin Lauryl Carbamate,Xanthan Gum,Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Sorbic Acid Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Sodium Hydroxide, Tetrasodium EDTA.

So you have come to the point where you are sick and tired of buying the oversized headbands at For Love or the hair stores and seeing every female, or male wearing them aswell?? Well guess what??? I have a remedy for you that may help your pockets a little more.

Right now I may need you to stop reading… and look in your closets because there are some tongues in there that have been screaming at you for a while… At this point you are probably scratching your head, or thinking, this girl is crazy. But no! Reach for your sneakers and unless those babies because those laces are gonna be used for something different.

Whether you have Natural or Relaxed hair, shoelaces can help spice up a TWA or a simply ponytail. This was inspired by my friend Quana.

Simply wrap the lace around once or twice and tie then VIOLA! You have a new headband bow =)

"I heard the screams of your heart,
Like sirens sounding in the streets,
Like sirens warning me to make way,
Emergency, emergency
This is how your heart screamed.
And I felt the pain that you felt,
I felt the pain that you felt,
Its like that pain, that pain when you witness a child abused by the belt,
That pain when you watch that person cry loud there last help,
That pain, this pain
I felt your pain
And I feel the rain that you stood in,
This rain that you stood in,
Drops that fall on you like a million and one pins,
Drops that tear your clothes,
Drops that scorch your skin,
This is the rain that you stood in,
This is the pain that you took in
And there are the remains of what your soul lived in.
The remains that held all of your feeling deep within,
These remains are your bones and skin,
This is now the remains of what your soul lived in"

Beauty Challenge Day1

Day 1

I love being called beautiful every once in a while, because I believe credit is given where credit is due. If you take care of your body be sure to take care of every aspect of your body. To get love you have to first love it. So today I am going to discuss caring and beautifying your skin!!! Being a natural beauty shouldn’t take hard work but it should include a natural determination to care for yourself in the best way. Listed below are just a few products that you should have for your face and skin to make it glow and remain healthy. I know when I have a TWA or a Wash n Go i my skin isnt glowing my hair looks dull, therefore I don't want you guys to feel the way I do at all. The brands of what I use should not in any way influence what you may use.

Listed from left to right

  • Black Soap From Ghana <<---- Great as a soap within it self. Its good from every inch of your skin leabing it brighter and clearer
  • T.N Dinkinson Witch Hazel Astringent <<--- I use it as an astringent because it is an anstringent and it sucks up the additional dirt that may reside on my skin and in my pores
  • Brighter by Nature Skin Brightener from Origins <--- Its a serum that helps my hyper-pigmentation. It fades my dark spots from my acne
  • Clean & Clear Foaming Facial Cleanser for sensitive skin <-- I use this to remove my makeup
  • Brighter By Nature Exfoliating Pads by Origins <--- It works well with the serum. You use it twice a week and it helps to exfoliate to skin. It can replace a facial mask
  • Equate Oil Free Moisturizer <--- I use this twice a day in the AM and PM. It is good because i have oily skin and helps moisturize without the excess oil found in other moisturizer

Some Of these products that I use my not be any use to you, because everyone has different skin! But my challenge to you and myself today is to stick to a regimen for two weeks! Yes two weeks! Although I have all these products I can never keep a regimen up causing my skin not to progress in its natural pattern as it should. I guarantee if you keep up a healthy pattern of the products you use and not experiment with other products Your skin will be brighter and smoother in no time. BUT you have to be sure that the products you do choose to use, they have to work with your skin's balance. So before you try any products you must try it on a part of your body (preferably your wrist) first to be sure you are not allergic.

In your 3 week regimne to keep it simple the foour must haves are

  1. A facial Cleanser
  2. An astringent
  3. Moisturizer
  4. Mask/Exfoliater (at most 3 times a week)

Clean & Clear Instant Oil-Absorbing Sheets 50 sheets

Tip: Throughout the day if you get a a little oil, don't reach for a paper towel, but perhaps these wonderful Oil absorbing sheets!

Post Your Pics and Your progress!! I'll put them up =)

For those of you who read my blog, I am sure you were informed that Yesterday was my 1 month Nappiversary. Now, I am the type of girl who absolutely LOVES to spend money which could be a problem when you have school to pay for. But I mean you only live once so I thought I deserved something good. Therefore, I wanted some type of product to define my curls. I remember when I first did my BC, I went to my local BBS store immediately after, to buy some type of curl defining product. I unfortunately failed at doing so because the product I initially wanted to buy was the IC Fantasia but I walked out with LA Curl  activator. That product was a Fail!! It didn't do much for my curl pattern. There was someone who found joy in my loss, which was my mother who took the product and found better use for it as a gel on her relaxed hair.

Therefore this time around I wanted to treat myself to something that had a better chance of working out. I asked my #NaturalHair twitter fam what I should buy and they recommended either Eco Styler or Kinky Curly Curling Custard. The two range way differently in prices but the results are quite the same. While I looked more into the background of these two products I stumbled upon a very informative Youtube video on these two products... Can you guys guess which one I ended up treating myself to???

My Nappy Happy sure ran my pockets Sappy treat!

Thursday, July 8, 2010

Yup you read right!! it's my 1 month nappiversary post BC. January 2nd marks my Au Naturale Journey aswell. You may ask how I am feeling, and I would reply great. But to be completely honest I feel as if I am cheating because My head is covered with beautiful microbraids, but don't be fooled, I am the first to defend My natural hair. I was cruising youtube (my favorite thing to watch) yesterday and I was inspired By GoldenX's Channel. She told her viewers that sometimes it may be discouraging as a natural diva but sometimes you need a symbolic inspiration up lifter. This is why I made a collage of just a few natural mamas for my new blog look! Jill, Lauryn (my fav), and Solange are just a few Au Naturals that rock their hair and don't care. This is why I am challenging you to make some type of symbolic symbol or picture to help you stay inspired with your look. You could even send in your pic's to me and I'll put them up, because I love displaying talents. Stay nappy, curly, kinky, slinky and most of all Happy!! Cia.E

Wrong!!! Many people are misled when it comes to hair in general. Whether it be about natural hair or hair itself. Some common misconceptions are those that scare people from trying new things. I commonly hair ones like, Natural hair means Fros; Braids make your hair fall out; You Can't straighten Natural hair; Blase Blase. All of these misjudgements are due to lack of knowledge on hair itself. I have recently found great ways to overcome one false idea which is washing hair when it is micro braided. Sometimes people becom afraid to even wash their braided hair because they believe that you have to wash it under a faucet. Little do they know that when your hair is braided a faucet isnt needed to wash your hair and there are various ways to wash it.

Recently I have washed my ahir with a product called dry shampoo. I love it! It is a purple liquid/gel form that is easily applied to your scalp. You use the nozzle it is made with and run it through your scalp. After 1 to 2 mins you takre a warm wash cloth and wip the remining residue and your done. Easy as one two three. You can also use this same formula to wash each individual braid. The best part about this method is that your braids are less likely to lossen easily. When you are doing this method and many others sometimes it is easier to gain help form a friend, but otherwise this is a self serving technique as well!! Dont get me wrong though, there is nothing wrong with a "regular" wash but I PREFER this method. To each his own.
