A few weeks ago I decided to try something new with good ole Toni. I washed with Anita grants shampoo bar (its oh so lovely review coming soon).  Then I did medium coils which didn't really stay.
Afterwards I used miss Jessie's curling pudding and then made it sit over night. Unfortunately the results were poor. But I decided I would share...

Side note: misses Jessie's curling pudding is great!

Once I learn how to coils properly perhaps it will come out better but for now we will stick with side puffs.

Today's package that arrived came to accompany my juicy couture bracelet that I received for Christmas from a dear friend.
Of course you are supposed to build your bracelet with charms for special occasions I believe so being the big spender that  I am *hangs head in shame,* I wasted no time and purchased a charm. The first charm to grace my bracelet is this diamond (doubt they are real) poked strawberry. The reason...well there are so many but a friend of mine said it was the closet thing that matched my personality. I think she is right...strawberries are indeed the best, although its not my favorite fruit...go figure lol.

And for those of you who are wondering why I didn't just get a Pandora then you obviously you don't know me... Mainstream thumbs down lol

I have tried 6months ago to do a straight weave without the hassle of tracks but it was a total fail. Luckily one of my youtube subscribers informed me that I tried it with the wrong type of hair. Low and behold she was so correct. The style that I have below lasted me a good 3-4 weeks. I just got extremely lazy with maintenance. But when I say it was so easy to install even a stuffed animal could do it! 0_o or not... but you get the point. My mini tutorial is bellow!

Merry Christmas guys. Remember that this holiday season is a season for caring and sharing. Not necessarily materials possessions but time. Time and life should be cherished especially with those who enjoy sharing these entities with you. Love you guys.

So there are Christians in the club? Does that sound right to you?...At first I was really skeptical about the song "in da Club' by Canton Jones, which is censored sometimes for some reason, but the message behind it after his explanation was really touching. For those of you who don't know, Mr. Jones is a Christian artist who has an upcoming album called 'Dominionaire'. Although i have never listened to the album in its entirety I do believe that he has a passion for what it is he is trying to promote...that being Dominion over all with the power of Christ. Below is his explanation of what exactly his song represents.

Life throws us curve balls sometimes and in this life we never know which way to dodge. So I have decided to create a bucket list for myself. For those of you who don’t know what a ‘bucket list’ is, then let me explain.  A bucket list contains a list of things that you desire to do or achieve before you “kick the bucket”, or die so to speak. Now most times people choose to create this list when they know they are on their way out but I think it shouldn’t be something we choose to do later on in life but why not when we have the chance.

So here is my Bucket list in no particular order. Some things I have achieved and note that the list is continuously growing.

For some reason I feel as if this is  what advertisers call  a viral advertising stunt by Essence, for the simple fact that Essences knows YouTube viewers and Natural hair gurus will prepare a rebuttal to their statements. With that being said, Congratulations Essences because low and behold I am one of the many millions who is yet again mentioning your magazine!
All I can say is that I grew up on YouTube meaning my journey would have been nothing without the wonderful ladies out there who contributed their time and experiences on their hair .
Below is a discussion video AfricanExport, whom by the way is the BEST, put together about the ordeal.

Black girl With long Hair You have done it again.

I rarely find videos with girls portrayed with short natural hair. and not only short but a bit more of a kinkier texture as well. Well CJ Hilton your producers got this one on lock! If you read the comments you may see a lot of the viewers criticizing her skin tone and loose texture but in my opinion it is a bit more on the think side… and at the end of the day…WHO CARES!

The song kinda threw me off at first but I understood the overall message. What do you guys think?

I absolutely love her mohawk as well =)

I never showed the world my process of making flaxseed gel but I will show you guys later on, the final product of using homemade flaxseed gel. The first time I used the gel I fell in love but I never took any pics so as soon as i'm finished with this protective style I will certainly be doing a wash and go with this gel.

The items I use to make my gel from to time varies drastically. But for this particular recipe, check out the ingredients below.

DIY Flaxseed Gel

My name is Ashly Nash, I'm a 24 year old graphic designer from Louisiana.
When did you decide to throw the relaxer out (if you did)?
I decided to start my journey to natural hair in February 2009.
What was your support system like once you went natural?
My support system was pretty much non-existent when I decided to go natural. One of my friends even told me they thought my hair would be ugly.
How would you describe your hair journey so far?
This journey has not only been one on which I've learned to love my hair but also one on which I've learned to love myself more. It is very important to have self-confidence when transitioning or when you decide to big chop. I used to use my hair as a security blanket.
What products work best for your hair?
Currently I'm using: my own special mix of Shea Butter, Cantu Shea Butter Leave In, Mango & Lime Lock/Twist Gel, IC Fantasia Gel, Olive Oil Root Stimulator Replenishing Packs, Kinky Curly Knot Today, EVOO, LeKair Cholesterol Plus, Eco Styler Gel, Suave Almond & Shea Butter Shampoo/Conditioner.
When it comes to your hair, what do you find most challenging?
I am a very impatient person and in order to have natural hair I feel as though a person must have a great deal of patience.
What keeps you motivated (pertaining to life/work(blogging/ your shop)/or hair)?
Loving myself is a great motivator, loving what I do and how I take care of things and how I live my life. Those things keep me very motivated.
Natural hair today maybe be considered out of the norm, even though your hair is lovely what is the craziest remark you have received about your hair?
I had someone tell me that I should style my hair a different way if I intended to get a particular job. She also said that natural hair wasn't considered professional.
Any advice to the aspiring successful natural haired women out there/closing remarks?
Learn patience! Own your hair and  work it out! Remember you are in control!

I may not always categorize myself into a group based on features or assets, but seriously, being a part of a natural hair community has got me thinking. Are we left out?

While I was at work a doctor approached me (who also has natural hair), and she asked if there is a place in my state where I purchase my hair products…. and then I began to think. there are not many shops out there who just specialize in hair products for natural hair. Now doing so may have its limitations, and its stigma on catering to just one group, making the natural hair community ostracize others.
But C’MON SON! It would be nice to have a store that we could go to just to have our hair questions answered or even to find out which products best help with out hair, as expressed by the Doctor. Yes this may be a controversial topic and I could very well answer for both sides but I just had to let it be known. So if there are any beautiful hair product creators out there that can help with this issue, please step out of your box and open up a store. There is nothing to lose… =) I would but I am not the greatest at conjuring hair concoctions.

What if i told u i cheated...
all those lies and deceptions i conjured up about you secretly poured into my bowl.
What if i told u i cheated....
That his hands weren't really Urs, and his obsession with me, didn't quite fit your desires?
What if i told you i cheated...
So your friends are no longer yours but his instead because my very being no longer belongs to
What if i told u i cheated...
Your resume didn't match my other half...because even though Ur my binding link, his credentials override Urs in both the pockets and the bedroom
What if i Told u i cheated....
What God once made holy has been emaciated and "i do" sounds Like "i dont"
Your stern demeanor says it all was it because i cheated?
Now u assume i cheated...
It makes u think if its really my yearly gross that's paying for this roof over Ur Head
and the car payments i make for u every month…is it me  or my man mistress supplying me with the funds...
So lets say i cheated... would i admit or be just like u?
You cheated...

Okay so…sit down, pull up a chair, pop a squat, or relax on that sofa
because ladies we are about to have us a nice conversation. Tell me
something, how do you feel? When you wake up in the morning after
giving thanks to God, how do you feel about yourself? Are you
comfortable with who you are or do you confront the things that you
are not comfortable with?

Well, first let me say that you have to start your day off embracing
who you are.  Embrace everything about you.  Embrace you flaws,
imperfections, perfections, attitude, body, soul, and mind.  Now,
embracing doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to accept them;
however you do need to be comfortable with them. Be comfortable enough
to know that you can still be you and be beautiful.

There‘s always going to be a time where you will sit back, reflect on
things and feel like you are lost.  But honey chil’e let me teellll
you.  You have to figure out who you want to be as a person and as a
woman.  Baby you need to realize that you (clearing my throat…yes you
honey) are “fearfully and wonderfully made” Psalms 139:14. See God
knew what he was doing when he made you and you are beautiful and
perfectly made in his eyes. Now it’s time for you to embrace that.

In Phil 4:10, Paul talks about being content.  Comfort and content go
hand in hand.  Paul says “I have learned in whatever state I am, to be
content.” Be satisfied with yourself and be content because everything
about you, God created and He knows you better than anybody. Don’t
worry about how other people will perceive you. You don’t have to live
your life for other people.  You live your life for yourself and for
pleasing God because he is the only person that you really need to
answer to.  People come and go honey…trust…there will be plenty of
people who will walk in and out of your life because they will not be
open to the type of person that you are.

Now, I can tell you that the one way that you can be comfortable with
yourself is to get acquainted with God first. Why? Because you then
learn to put all your hope, faith, desires, heartache, concerns, and
inconsistencies in God’s hands. God is never going to put more on you
than you can bare and let’s be honest….struggle is a part of our
lives.  Even Jesus himself had to struggle.

Hopefully you all have had the chance to fulfill Lesson 1 and found the “homework” to be effective.

So now that you are geared up for purpose in your hair journey the next step is organization.

Organization is key in any process in life. It helps you to become more aware of your surroundings and on point. Whether you are organizing your finances or your shoes, it is a key factor in progressing to success.

You now need to be able to designate certain places for all of your hair care needs, You need to be able to store your hair care products and accessories. We can not forget our hair tools either.

Through my hair journey I have not purchased storage spaces for my products because I have used house hold items, but if you feel the need to buy a separate storage space for the items you are envisioning to purchase or already have in your possession then by all means go get it. Every purchase made needs a resting a place. You don’t want to be a product junky like myself (well an ex-product junky) and be stuck with wads of products you have to stuff under your bed. Trust me, at least 90 percent of newly naturals fall into product junkyism in their first few months because of their “trial stages” with products.

What I use?

For my hair accessories I have used a old card board box that was decorated with Tinkerbelle

For my hair tools I use an old Clorox bin

For products I use a huge and I mean huge tote bag and a crate

What will you use?

Homework:

Start thinking of ways you will store your hair supplies. Once you have done that, organize the items you have already to start your organization habits in your journey.

*Remember: You don’t have to buy storage equipment, just know how and where you will store and organize to be effective in your journey.
