As summer begins I too begin. This beginning of mine consists of makeup loves and new finds.
If you know me, then you know that I am a big fan of color. I love bright colors, and now that the neon wave seems to be hitting the country, my love has grown deeper.
What’s great about lipsticks is that you can find them anywhere! That’s right anywhere.
DON’T SLEEP ON THE HAIR STORE
Before I new about MAC or Sephora, I knew about “Beauty Supply Store”.
I have spotted the greatest finds at the checkout counter at the hair store. Although their nail polish is not the greatest I must say their lipstick (NYK) brand does me well.
It is highly pigmented and true to color Now I understand that some may not even think twice to purchase makeup if it doesn’t come from MAC or Este Lauder, but my friends I beg to differ.
The only issue that one may find with the hair store lipstick would be the last.
My trick: I make sure my lips are exfoliated really well and over the lipstick I apply a clear gloss (or pigmented your choice) and it helps it stay on.
You also would want to add something underneath the lipstick as well because it does act as a lip stain.
Here you can see 303 Fuchsia nyk lipstick

I became very jealous hearing everyone in different states speaking about Natural Hair Conventions and meetups occurring in their hometowns. I just didn’t understand how women with Natural Hair all over except CT could get together and experience the joy of Natural Hair.

Therefore I took action!!!

I organized a little get together at Cosi’s restaurant in West Hartford where all the women in CT who could make it to the event attended. I met all sorts of beautiful women who loved their hair there. There were different ranges of hair types including those transitioning or thinking about transitioning!DSCN0220
We talked about hair products our journey and shared tips. Although the group was pretty small, the love and energy exceeded the group size.

I can’t wait for the next event in July!

This year my birthday was not just a days but I would have to say ‘days”…
This 2nd decade I’m living in, is a period where I want to document.
So now you too can share the experience with me! Here is a little slideshow of my Birthday(s) nights!
2 decades and still going

Celebrated for more than one day….

Although I hated my Black psychology class in college, I will agree that I learned quite a few things. It really opened my eyes up to different perspectives on race and their roots.
For you history majors out there and non history majors, it may be safe to say that you are familiar with the triangular trade and the enslavement of people in the Caribbean, you have the Arawak's and others I believe who too were enslaved by the Europeans….and that’s about as much history you will ever get out of me….
with that being said although it may have no relation….
I must admit that I don’t like being called African American. I get somewhat offended being called African American because I feel that it specific dictates that I’m American. Although the term may just be a term to keep relationships with others copasetic I on the other hand don’t find the term pleasing to my ear.
Me personally, I am comfortable being called Black.. or Jamaican. Some may think im ignorant.. and that’s fine. But if there was one thing I learned in that Black Psychology class was that you define yourself because race is as complex as calculus.
How would you define yourself if you aren’t from America? Do you feel comfortable being called African American?

I don’t want to be “African American”
