Tales from the Kinks: Elle Edition

Wednesday, January 2, 2013

Hi! My name is Elle and I'm from Philly. I'm interested in natural hair (of course!) In addition to natural hair I am also interested in DIY, Photography, and Fashion!

When and why did you decide to get rid of the creamy crack if you did?elle5

A friend of mine convinced me to get rid of the "creamy crack" about seven years ago. She convinced me that I could grow long healthy hair without the need of relaxers and the rest is history. I was a long (looooong) term transitioner and it took a lot of trial and error to learn how to take care of my natural hair. But I'm here today with a wealth of knowledge to share and even more that I'm willing to learn!

What was your support system like after you made your decision to go natural?

My friend Tanya was my beginning support system but eventually my entire group of friends decided to go natural (not all at once, took a lot of convincing over the years). So we are all natural at this point and we support each other, which is very nice!

It is true that we are not our hair, or anyone else's, but do you have any natural hair crushes?

I have tons of natural hair crushes! My very first two natural hair crushes were Moptop Maven and Curly Nikki. Today I have a ton of natural hair crushes that I am following on Instagram!elle2

What are your inspirations in life and inspiration for your hair?

My inspirations in life are my family and friends. I also find inspiration in being an inspiration to others. Inspirations for my hair are the women out there that are able to grow long healthy hair effortlessly.

When you are going through your daily regimen what products do you reach for first and why?

The products that I reach for first are my Tresemme Naturals and Shea Butter. I don't think I could part with either of these products. I use them daily for my wash n' gos.

What is your go to style in the winter and the summer?

My go to style in the winter varies depending on how much time I have or the random style ideas that run through my head. lol. I am primarily wearing wash n' gos because I love how they look and they are very simple. I also do buns and braid outs/twist outs.

For the summer, my styles are the wash n go and buns. I don't think my hair could manage much with the humidity.

What is the most important thing you have learned on your natural hair journey?

The most important thing that I have learned on my natural hair journey is patience and confidence. Both of those have been very important in helping me get to where I am today.

Where can we find you on the net?

I can be found at:! Also please follow my FaceBook page: TheEllegantElle and Instagram: the_ellegantelle
