Living the healthy life can have its ups and downs. Some of those down times can be pretty disheartening especially around the holiday season when everyone puts their "foot" in their food. Eating healthy simply means that you make the choice to neglect those foods that give you temporary satisfaction for a healthier life.

Personally, I have made the decision to cut out dairy and to reduce my gluten intake. Though I am not always successful, as it seems EVERYTHING has gluten,  I have done some research so that my healthy eats can be tastefully satisfying as well! My greatest finds those far are the variations of coconut.
I can't necessarily use coconut in my hair as it make my hair too brittle but eating coconut has changed my life!

This past holiday season I discovered how to make gluten and diary free sweet potato pie along with...wait for it...diary free ice cream! No, I didn't necessarily make the ice cream but the pie was all me!! Be sure to check out my instagram page here for some cool pics of my food.
The main ingredients in the pie were of course sweet potato and coconut flour. Coconut flour is high in fiber and has great health fats to fulfill your nutritional needs. It doesn't include any wheat and grains which gives it a two thumbs up on the gluten free scale!!! Coconut flour is packed with protein and gives yours dishes great flavors. Soooo this means that you don't have to ditch your favorite desserts but instead just substitute for healthier choices.
And everyone knows that sweet potato pie goes great with ice cream. Due to my diary free journey I thought that all hope would be lost for my milkshakes and ice cream endeavors, BUT I was wrong. Thanks to my co-worker, I now know that Diary-Free ice cream exists! I went to my local stop and shop and headed straight to the organic section to see what I could find! Luckily there were so many
flavors to choose from so I did not feel limited in my search. I decided to go with basic vanilla by Coconut Bliss. I was so skeptical but I am so happy that I decided to try because it was beyond delicious! Now, it doesn't have anything on Cookies and Cream but this was a great segway to my dairy free lifestyle while still having tasty treats. Who knows what great things are next, Maybe apple donuts!???

With the holidays fastly approaching, it's easy to fall into a somber mood if you're not careful. Though this time is supposed to be one of great laughter and cheer, it can be really hard to enjoy the holidays if you have lost a loved one. My video below outlines some helpful strategies you can use this year to cope with grief.

Happy Holidays! You're not alone!

Since puberty my, face always resembled a crater. I am able to joke about it now because it took time to grow confidence in my skin In grade school people would often times rub on my forehead to grease their hands if they were ashy, no joke. It’s sad because I have tried billions of products from over the counter medications to prescribed and recommended products from dermatologist.  On this next skin venture I am most hopeful that this time there will be some types of progress.
First let me tell you a bit about Tropical Bliss. Tropical Bliss is a company that prides themselves on organic ingredients that are deemed to be most effective. I am currently trying out their Fruit Enzymes collection. This special line was developed for people who suffer from acne, discoloration and wrinkles like myself. With the exception of wrinkles, acne and discoloration have been the villains in my life. If you take a look at their website they explain in depth the different fruit enzymes and natural organic ingredients that use to treat these symptoms. One of the best parts about this set are that is animal cruelty free and 100% vegan!

Face mapping

Face mapping has been an ancient technique used to understand why breakouts occur on specific portions of your face. According to face mapping, majority of my breakouts are hormonal as they occur on the jawline and mouth areas. I have not changed anything in my diet in the last three months but my acne has gotten worse in the last month and a half. Granted because my acne is hormonal I should be seeing a doctor to do various test on hormone levels, HOWEVER I am still going to give this Super Enzyme set a try!

What you get in the set

Purifying Cleanser
This active purfying cleanser thoroughly deep cleanses the skin and remove excess oil & surface impurities to prepare your skin for further treatments.
* Tightens the pores, deeply scrubs, moisturize and purifies the skin
* Regulate the sebum production

Clarifying Toner
This clarifying toner contains a powerfull blend of fruit enzymes, acids, organic botanical complex and nutrients to exfoliate and remove excess oil and damaged skin.
This is a very effective facial toner, expecially recommended for greasy and acne prone skin.
* Remove dulling flakes and reduce oil secretions that clogs the pores.
* Prevent breakouts
* Diminish pigmentation and dry up blemishes
It will prepare the skin to be more receptive to further treatments and leaves it fresh & clean

Resurfacing Serum
The Resurfacing Serum will dramatically improve your skin condition.
Our Aloe Vera based peel contains a blend of natural Fruit Enzymes including Pomegranate, Papaya and Pineapple which have been proven to effectively minimise the appearance of wrinkles, age spots and fine lines. They work by loosening the glue-like bonds of the stratum corneum there by gently exfoliating the dead, dull skin cells.
Loaded with 15 % of Papaya & Pineapple enzymes, and Licorice extracts, it will significantly exfoliate your skin, dry up blemishes, improve acne scarring, hyper pigmentation, age spots, wrinkles and seborrheic keratosis.

Blemish Control Cream
* Keeps the pores clean and exfoliates dead skin cells
* deeply hydrates for a glowing and younger looking skin

Night Brightening Serum
- Stimulates new cell generation giving the skin a fresh, youthful appearance
- Tightens and tones the skin with its high concentration of vitamin e and antioxidants
- Slows the development of wrinkles, creases and signs of aging
- Softens the skin, reduces infection and is effective in treating burns
- Alleviates many skin conditions including acne, eczema and psoriasis

How does it smell?

To say the least all of these products smell super yummy. With blends of papaya and pineapple I take pleasure in wiping the substances on my face. The only drawbacks is the Blemish Control cream smells awful! Like old laundry that has been sitting for two weeks but everything else trumps the bad smell. It’s not too potent and has the right hints of freshness.

Drawbacks

I am unsure if this is just the enzymes working its magic but my face burns frequently after putting on the blemish control cream. Now most of you would discontinue use however I understand that these products do include acid so perhaps the tingly feelings are the acids found in the products working its magic. Not sure if I can also consider this a drawback however I have also found more breakouts around my mouth and chin since the start of this product. It could be a possibility that this product is purging my skin of the underlying bacteria growing underneath my skin that produces the whiteheads. I will be able to tell you soon enough though to rename this as a positive effect instead of a drawback.

Here are the picture from day 3 and day 7. What are your thoughts?
 Day 3

Day 7

You can begin to see the patches lifting on my skin. Not I do realize that the lighting is different so in my next updates I will try to keep the lighting consistent. Byday 3 you can see my acne drying out which is a good thing! Just waiting on the spots to clear.

Recovering from any kind of infidelity is rough whether it be emotional or physical. If you put your heart into someone and literally watch the work, you’ve put into it crash and burn is pain like no other. Some people would even describe the feeling to be similar to losing someone to death. Which makes sense, you’ve lost. Point blank lost is lost.

Pic source: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com

I want to be able to offer you help in my area of expertise. As a marriage and family therapist, I see many families who have recovered from infidelity as it doesn’t just affect the couple unit but the family as well. Conversely, I’ve also seen marriages fail. There is nothing worse than wasting your valuable time on something that isn’t working. I want to help you through your frustrations or even help other out there. This in no way makes me your personal therapist…neither am I offering ADVICE per se…but I am here as a friend and I am willing to offer my help!

Whether you choose to see a specialist or decide to work things out on your own, it is important to remember some key factors in recovering.

  1.  Understand the context of the infidelity- Only ask the things you need to know! Spare yourself the details of how she did this and how much money he spent on that new car for her (Unless it tapped into your finances). Ask the questions that will slow down your thoughts. Ie: How long did the relationship last? Did you use protection? Were there other people? Has he been to the house? These questions will yield information that gives insight into the infidelity and allow you to understand where to go next. Keep the focus on the questions on your relationship!
  2.  Be Appreciative- Yes you have had hard times and this has exacerbated everything which paints your partner in a negative light, but you need to be able to rebuild or restructure the foundation you once had and you can’t do that if you can’t practice gratitude. Don’t let the betrayal swallow you and have you for dinner.
  3.  Look the pain in the face- When we are hurt we tend to want to run and hide or blame others but looking your hurt in the eye is a part of the healing process. Acknowledge that you are hurt don’t be too macho! Immerse yourself and look at it in the eye. If you feel you need assistance seek a therapist certified in IFS therapy to really submerge yourself in your emotions
  4.  Play detective- No this does not mean you should be going through her purse or looking in his phone. It means to seek out what the unmet need was! You need to be emotionally prepared to understand that unmet need and passionately address it. You will know when you are ready to really fulfil that unmet need. Trust me most cheating situations are not just about the SEX!
  5.  Reflect and create your lives- This is especially important if the two of you have children. Create goals for the future. People with goals tend to progress better because they have something to work towards. If you are living day by day in the betrayal, that will only feed the negative energy. Use the past, such as when you two first met in order to grasp the happy moments for this new structure.
  6.  Listen- As simple as it sounds just listen. Yes, you may hear things you don’t want to hear but allow each other the room to be completely honest with one another so that you can start to rebuild the relationship on a foundation of trust. Try using a timer to allow the person to speak uninterrupted for 1 minute and once it’s up, it’s your turn to speak, while acknowledging what the person has said. This is tough but it will give the conversations some structure outside of the pain and yelling.
  7.  Allow the perpetrator to grieve- Most times we feel that we are the only hurt person in the relationship but your wife/husband, boyfriend or girlfriend has been hurt as well! Most times they may feel ashamed and even more guilty. If they don’t have the space to grieve as well they may even go out and do something even more stupid because they feel all hope is lost. (now if that happens it’s time to go},  but grieve with them! Share emotions don’t shut them down.
  8.  Develop a positive space- Sometimes my clients have undergone so much pain and grief that they can’t bare the sight of the person who hurt them. It could be a year and then those old feelings of betrayal re-emerge. If that happens, try to create a positive space in your home. This space can be a corner, a separate room, near a window sill etc. In this positive place you will only think great thoughts about your spouse. Sometimes my clients will create a box of nick knacks that make them feel good about their partner and bring it to the space, ie. A watch that she bought you for Christmas or a bear that was won at a carnival. By having this space, you will be able to hold on to the aforementioned gratitude and if he/she begins to aggravate you, you have a place to really hold onto the positives that were created.
  9.  Recommit yourselves to each other- Let each other know that this is only a phase you are going through, yes it may be a five-year phase to really heal but if the love is there and is real time will heal the hurt. The person who betrayed their loved one should always acknowledge their hurt, and allow that person to hurt. Recovery isn’t easy, but showing that person that you are there for them and still care about their feeling can be validating. Acknowledge that the pain is present and still maintain your apologetic nature, after-all you did hurt her. Some people may even want to renew their vows, which is symbolic in itself!
  10.  Get Help- If you feel like you can’t handle it on your own, please seek help! DO NOT be ashamed, because you invested so much time and energy and it would be awful to let it go to waste! Visit www,AAMFT.org for marriage therapist near you! This in no way is an exhaustive list of tips on how to recover from infidelity, but it can truly be a guide to helping yourself or others!

In all, I hope these tips will be helpful to either you or a friend. You are never alone on the path to recovery!

For the past month I've been updating my beauty/photography room! To say the least, I'm enjoying every moment of it. My newest addition has even brightened up the room literally speaking.

My umbrella lights weren't doing the trick for me so I invested in a new ring light and so far so good! At first I was going to get a Newer brand light but I opted for the 19inch AW Pro.

To find out more take a look at my video!

Coastal Scents

Who doesn't love a deal? I am no makeup guru but I want scavenging through all of my makeup drawers the other day and I found my beginner's makeup 88 eyeshadow palette. Luckily the colors were still pigmented and most of the pots were still in place! Needless to say, my 88 Palettes from Coastal Scents is a gem because it has all of the colors you can think of to play around with and it's matte.I'm not too fond of shimmers yey. Sure..it is time to buy a new one after over 6 years o use and non use...but for now I am going to stick with it until I can't use majority of the colors.

For those of you who are just like me, and can barely apply lipstick to your lips, Coastal Scents provides you with the most affordable quality makeup. Now back then, I do believe I paid 15 bucks for the palettes which was a STRETCH for my pockets, but nowadays these palettes at other stores cost about 50 bucks a pop! I think I'd stick with the 15 dollars, which by the way is now only 8 dollars, especially because I am not at the Guru level to just shell out all that money.

As we speak, Coastal scents has eyeshadows for under 3 bucks...need I say more.

You can also get 5 bucks worth of makeup for free here
